What Is Solana Monkey Business NFT?

Solana Monkey Business is two generations of collections on the Solana Blockchain. Gen1 & Gen2 are the name of their created collections that have taken the Solana community by storm these last 6 months.

Gen1, which launched in June of 2021, is a collection of 4 different space-themed monkey NFTs. Each Monkey having its own allocated limited supply. Mint prices ranged from $25-250$, depending on the rarity of the monkey being purchased. If you were able to collect the whole collection of 4 (only 25 total sets), you gained holder royalties on any Gen2 trades that would take place in the future.

Their Gen2 collection launched in August of last year, with a mint price of $69. With their Gen2 collection, they created a much larger supply for collectors. The Gen2 collection is 5000 unique generated Monkeys, each being generated from over 99 possible traits, spread over 6 layers. 5% of each Gen2 trades are deducted for royalties. 2.5% is then given to all holders who hold a complete Gen1 set.

The 25 Gen1 holders have held strong and created quite the floor price to obtain access to their “25 club“. However, since there are only 25 sets, some Gen1 individual prices are lower then Gen2. That is something to keep in mind if you plan to shop around and grab a SMB NFT. At the time of publishing, the floor price for their Gen2 collection is a massive 144.8 SOL — which is nearly $14,000.

Something to note, similar to ETH, some holders became SOL rich this past fall. When this happens, NFT buyers hold a lot more buying power and also want to “park” their coin in an asset that can work for them. It seems Solana Monkey Business answered that demand and in a huge way for SOL holders.

Unlike most of our NFT reviews, you CANNOT buy this on OpenSea, since it is on the SOL blockchain and not on Ethereum. Instead, you can head over to their SMB Marketplace, this is where all Monkeys are listed for sale, from both Gen1 and Gen2. You will need SOL and a SOL wallet set up, after that, you can hit the marketplace and shop for your Solana Monkey Business NFT!

It seems SMB has established itself as a blue-chip SOL NFT, and it is here to stay. As NFT popularity continues, it will be interesting to see where the SMB NFTs end up and what they have planned for their Gen3 collection.
