Polkadot Founder Gavin Wood Sends Massive Crypto Donation To Help Ukraine
After @’ing Ukraine asking for a DOT address, Polkadot founder Gavin Wood came through in the end with a large donation for the country in dire need of all the help it can get right now.
Crypto community continue to support Ukraine. I am grateful to @gavofyork, who made an impressive donation of $5M from @Polkadot $DOT. This will certainly contribute to the Ukrainian victory as well as support civil people. We will win — the best people with us.

Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Federov, who you must be well aware of if you’ve been reading CRU lately, tweeted out his thanks to Polkadot founder Gavin Wood for his 5 million dollar donation. “This will certainly contribute to the Ukrainian victory as well as support civil people. We will win — the best people with us,” Federov said.

- The other day, Gavin Wood said he would donate 5 million to a DOT address. The tweet was met with criticism because of the increasingly hostile Russian military presence that includes a 40-mile long convoy. Wood hasn’t said if taxes were a consideration.
- Nevertheless, Ukraine came up with a DOT address for Wood to send his donation to. To put it in perspective, Wood’s donation is half of what the entirety of crypto scraped together in the first 24 hours after Ukraine tweeted out its BTC and ETH addresses.
- Alongside Wood’s very large donation, another $800,000 USD worth of DOT has poured into the wallet since it was announced about 12 hours ago (current time 1:10 EST).
- VeChain founder Sunny Lu said he would donate 8 million if a VET address were provided. No word yet from Federov.
- Federov shouted out Solana Foundation for its support.
- The donations so far are being sold very quickly by the country. Their ETH wallet has been consistently sold down as soon donations come in. Currently they only have 35,000 worth after receiving over 7 million showing how quickly crypto donations can get into the hands of anyone who needs it.
- To donate BTC or ETH, here is the original tweet.
