Record Breaking Deal

Microsoft recorded the largest investment in its company’s history today with its purchase of Activision/Blizzard. Along with being Microsoft’s biggest buy to date, their addition to their Xbox division is the largest deal in the gaming industry as well.

The reported deal is valued at a whopping 68.7 billion dollars, which is roughly 1.6 million BTC. This is more than double their deal to purchase LinkedIn for 26 billion in 2016.

With the gaming industry valued at over 170 billion dollars, it makes perfect sense for Microsoft to make this kind of splash. One major benefit to the blockbuster deal is the Microsoft franchise will be rewarded.

Some of the games that Microsoft now owns include Call of Duty, World Of Warcraft, Diablo and even popular mobile game Candy Crush. These games already have absurd amounts of gamers that invest endless time.

What could the possibilities of the Metaverse and monetizing their time bring to these games and their game play? Remember, Microsoft has made it clear- they are definitely a player within the Metaverse and they are wasting little time.

Metaverse & Gaming

Although a lot of gamers seem to reject the idea of Metaverse gaming and monetizing their efforts, but it seems that’s exactly where Xbox is headed. At times, it’s a bit puzzling why gamers wouldn’t want to embrace a new way to game. Understandably, people tend to enjoy what they know and are comfortable with, but those who pivot and adopt may be the real winners in the near future.

Gamers currently are making income via popular platforms for streaming like Twitch. Now just think when you played Call of Duty if your coins had tangible value, besides in-game or on the streaming platform.

With the metaverse and crypto the possibilities are endless in the gaming world. Another interesting idea is what could come of the current “NFTS” in games. Skins, special weapons, charms, or in-game purchases could create secondary sales and demand.
