Associated Press Launching NFT Marketplace

Legendary news agency Associated Press is “AP”ing — see what I did there? — into NFTs with  a marketplace built on Ethereum-scaling solution Polygon.

Associated Press (AP) announced today that its launching an NFT marketplace on January 31st. The NFT marketplace will consist of photography from their Pulitzer winning photographers.

  • AP, founded in 1846, is a non-profit association with membership composed of U.S. newspapers and broadcasters.
  • “For 175 years AP’s photographers have recorded the world’s biggest stories through gripping and poignant images that continue to resonate today,” said Dwayne Desaulniers, AP director of blockchain & data licensing.
  • AP is somewhat of a sneaky crypto bull. They’ve already partnered with Chainlink and Civil, a crypto journalism startup.
  • AP’s marketplace is built on Polygon, an Ethereum sidechain and layer-2. Despite being known as layer-2 scaling solution, the protocol boasts a large development base opting for it over EThereum. The news agency joins a plethora of Dapps building on top of Polygon.
  • The news comes after a relatively quite 10 days for Polygon after the protocol absolutely dominated the month of December.
  • AP tapped Xooa, a company that specializes in building marketplaces quickly for companies looking to get into the NFT space.
  • “Xooa is proud to work with The Associated Press to launch AP’s NFT marketplace. Xooa’s work with brands around NFTs and metaverse marketplaces provides inherent scarcity and utility for collectors as well as a powerful connection between the virtual world and the real world,” said Zach Danker-Feldman, a Xooa executive.
